Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

Fox Searchlight's Snow Flower and the Secret Fan was beautiful from start to finish; however,  in the end it lacked an authentic feel. It follows two stories, one in present-day Shanghai and the other in 19th-Century Hunan Province, and while it's a lovely yet cliched story of the power of friendship, its central message is a bit too old-fashioned for my liking.
